HCTZ (Hydrochlorothiazide)
A
- Thiazide type Diuretic
- Lowering BP and causing diuresis of edema
- promotes excretion of Cl, K, H, Mg, Ph, Ca
- Can Cause Hypotension / hypokalemia
- TURNS URINE BLUE / PHOTOSENSITIVITY
- wear sunscreen and change position slowly

furosemide (Lasix)
A
- Loop Diuretic
- Can cause hypokalemia
- Works extremely fast
- Watch for Hearing changes
- Can increase uric acid levels and gout symptoms

spirolactone (Aldactone)
A
- K+ sparing diuretic
- Causes loss of Na & Ca and saves K+
- Contraindicated in Hyperkalemia
- Continue med even if feeling better

Oxybutynin (Ditropan)
A
- Anticholinergic (Antispasmodic)
- Contraindicated in Narrow angle glaucoma, Myasthenia gravis,, CAD, & issues w/ motility
- Can Cause
- dry mouth, tachycardia, N/V, Headache and dizziness

(phenazopyradine) (Pyridium)
A
- Nonopioid analgesic used for urinary mucosa anesthetic
- Relief from transurethral surgery / neurogenic bladder
- Contraindicated in Renal Insufficiency
- Causes orange-red urine that can stain

ipatropium bromide (Atrovent)
A
- Anti-cholinergic
- Lower onset than Beta agonist (keeps the door open)
- Can cause dry mouth, headache, anxiety
- Don’t give w/ a cholinergic or adrenergic med

Proventil (Albuterol)
A
- Beta Agonist
- Sympathetic response (Chest pain, palpitations, HTN)
- Works very quickly for emergency situations

Flovent (fluticasone)
A
- Anti-inflammatories steroidal
- Can cause dry mouth, cough, oral fungal infections, hoarseness
- Use bronchodilators 1st, then after 5 minutes use corticosteroid
- Rinse mouth after use to reduce fungal infection

Accolate (zafirlukast)
A
- Non steroidal anti-inflammatory (Leukotriene Receptor Antagonist)
- Can cause Headache, dizziness, N/V/D, myalgia
- Administer on empty stomach
- Monitor theophylline levels, PT/INR levels if on these drugs concurrently

diphenydramine (Benadryl)
A
- H1 blocker (Antihistamine generation 1)
- Drowsiness, dry mouth
- Avoid driving and other activities requiring alertness while on med
- wear sunscreen to avoid photosensitivity reaction

fexofenadine (Allegra)
A
- Anti-histamine (second generation)
- Can make people awake instead of drowsy
