Specialized cells (animal) Flashcards
What are specialized cells?
They are cells that have a special job to do in the body and have a structure that makes them better be able to do their job.
What are the three types of muscle cells in your body?
- voluntary muscles (also called skeletal muscles).
-involuntary muscles (also called smooth muscles).
-cardiac muscles.
What are voluntary muscles?
They surround the bones of your skeleton and you can choose to make them move or not.
What are involuntary muscles?
They are muscles that work without you having to move or think about it.
Why do voluntary or involuntary muscles have
so much mitochondria?
This is because the muscles require a lot of energy to keep working.
What are cardiac muscles?
They are a type of muscle in the heart.
Are cardiac muscles voluntary or involuntary?
They are involuntary.
What is the appearance of the cardiac muscle?
They appear striped liked voluntary muscles.
What are nerve cells?
They are cells that make up your brain and also carry out information from your brain to other parts of your body such as your muscles and muscles back to your brain.
What are axons?
They are very long fiber’s extending from the nerves cell.
Why do nerve cells have axons?
They allow them the cell to carry messages over long distance.
What are the two types of blood cells?
The red blood cell and the white blood cell.
What is the function for the red blood cell?
-They carry oxygen from your lungs around your body where it is used to release the energy you need.
-They also carry some of the carbon dioxide from the cells back to your lungs so that you can get rid of it.
What is the function for the white blood cells?
They help your body to fight infection.
What are the two different types of fat cells?
Brown fat cells and white fat cells.
