Specialised plant cells Flashcards
1
Q
What are the adaptations of root hair cells
A
- Increase Surface area for Water to move into cell
- Large permanent vacoule speeds up the movements of water by osmosis
- They have many mitochondria for active transport
2
Q
What is the function of Root hair cells
A
The absorption of Water and Minerals from the soil
3
Q
What are the function of Palisade cells
A
They make glucose by photosynthesis
4
Q
How are palisade cells adapted for their functions
A
- Have chloroplast (Which contain chlorophyll) which absorb light for photosynthesis
- Positioned in continuous layers to absorb as much light
- Have Permanent vacoule which keeps cell rigid during osmosis
5
Q
What are the functions of Xylem cells
A
To transport Water and Mineral ions through the plant
6
Q
How are xylem cells adapted to their functions
A
- Ligning spirals build in the cell wall which make it strong and help withstand the pressure lf water
- Form a hollow tube
7
Q
What is the function of a Phloem cell?
A
- To transport dissolved sugars throughout the plant
8
Q
How are Phloem cells adapted to their functions
A
- Cell walls form sieve plates which carries the food down tube
- Supported by companion cells with alot of mitochondria which transfer energy for transport
