What is peritoneal dialysis?
A
PD uses the peritoneal membrane in the body as a filter. Because the peritoneal membrane is rich in vascular supply it is ideal for metabolic waste excretion and excess fluid removal from the blood.

What is Hemodialysis?
A
Blood is pumped from the body through special tubing into a dialysis machine via a surgically insterted arteriovenous fistula.
Patient will often have a catheter or shunt placed for this procedure. AV shunts are usually in the forearm, catheters in the chest.
