Define Special Movements:
The unique actions that occur at specific joints
Define Opposition of the thumb:
When the thumb is brought over to touch another digit/finger
carpometacarpal & metacarpaphalangeal joints of the thumb
ex:snapping
Define Reposition of the thumb:
When the thumb RETURNS to the anatomical position
Define Eversion of the soles:
Moves the soles of the feet AWAY from the midline
Define Inversion of the soles:
Moves the soles of the feet TOWARD the midline
ex:kicking a soccer ball
Define Dorsiflexion of the heels
Bending action, elevates the soles of the feet
ex:standing on heels
Define Plantar Flexion of the heels
Elevates heels to stand on tippy toes
Define Protraction & Retraction of the mandible/jaw:
The manible/jaw bone moves anteriorly(forward)
ex:over-bite
The mandible/jaw bone moves posteriorly (backward)
Define Depression & Elevation of the mandible/Jaw
Depression:Lowers jaw inferiorly (downward) yawn
Elevation: raises jaw superiorly ( upward) normal
