Gliding Movements at joints Flashcards
Define a Gliding Movement:
When articulating surfaces of 2 bones move back-and- forth/side-to-side
Define Flexion:
A bending movement around a joint in a limb
Define Extension:
A forward raising of the arm OR leg by a movement at the shoulder/hip-joint
Define Abduction:
Angular movements that occur ONLY at joints in the limbs
the movement of a limb AWAY from the midline of the body
Define ADDuction:
The movement of a body part TOWARD the body’s midline.
Define Circumduction:
movement of a limb when the distal end describes a circle while the proximal end remains fixed.
ex:at shoulder joint
Define Left/Right Rotation:
Turning of a body part to the left or right around a midline of the body
ex: turning head to say no
Define Pronation:
rotating arm to view top of arm and hand
Define Supination:
rotating arm to view forearm & palm of hand
Pronation & supination specifically consists of:
the rotation of the radius around the ulna at the prox. & distal ends of the radioulnar joints
