posterior total hip precautions
A
- no hip flexion past 90 degrees
- no hip adduction past midline
- no hip rotation

spinal precautions
A
B - no bending - avoid excessive trunk flexion
L - no lifting more than 10 lbs (gallon is 8.6 lbs)
T - no twisting - use log rolling to get in/out bed
- need to don spinal orthosis prior to mobilization if they have one

sternal precautions
A
- no pushing/pulling w/ UEs
- no UE ROM past 90 degrees flexion
- no lifting more than 10 lbs
- driving is also generally restricted

anterolateral and 2 incision total hip precautions
A
limit hip ext especially w/ ER

total shoulder precautions
A
- NO AROM
- no lifting, pushing, or pulling
- no excessive shoulder motion behind back, especially IR
- no excessive stretching, especially ER
- no supporting body weight by hand on involved side
- no driving for 3 weeks

Abdominal surgery precautions
A
- no lifting > 10 lbs
- no bending > 90 degrees at hips
- no Valsalva maneuvers
- use of velcro-fastened elasticized soft abdominal binder
