Atopic Dermatitis
D/S Common childhood skin disease, chronic, familial; erythema, edema with papules, vesicles, crusts forming usually on cheeks and spreading
E/T Allergens, most commonly foods (cow’s milk, eggs); environmental inhalants; pollen
Diaper Rash
D/S Maculopapular, occasionally excoriated eruption in diaper area
E/T Irritation from heat, moisture, feces; ammonia produced by bacterial decomposition of urine
S/S Diaper rash evident; irritable infant from discomfort of rash
D/X Observation of characteristic rash
T/X Exposing area to air; applying heat lamp; using topical antimicrobial agent
P/P Good with treatment/Frequent changing of diapers; drying, cleaning perianal area
Pediculosis
D/S Skin infestation with lice, a parasitic insect; more common in children who share combs, brushes, clothing
P/P Good with topical treatment
Dermatophytosis
D/S Superficial fungal skin infections:
Tinea capitis/scalp: Persistent, contagious, often epidemic infection
Tinea corporis: Fungal infection of body, on exposed skin surfaces; domestic animals, cats
