Obtaining special flight permit:

1. Submit written form (FAA form 8130-6) to FSDO (found in A/FD) indicating:
   - purpose of flight
   - crew required to operate aircraft
   - ways in which the aircraft does not comply with the regs
2. The FAA will then respond with a letter of authorization for that specific reason and aircraft
   - the LOA must be carried in aircraft during transport
   - or verbal

Special flight permits
A special flight permit may be issued for an aircraft that may not currently meet applicable airworthiness requirements but is capable of safe flight for the following purposes:

1. Flying the A/C to a place of repairs, alterations, maintenance, or storage
2. Delivering or exporting the aircraft
3. Production flight testing
4. Evacuating aircraft from place of imminent danger
5. Customers demonstration flights (if aircraft has completed production flight tests)
6. To authorize flight in excess of max gross weight to carry extra fuel if refueling and landing facilities are not available along the route
