Obtaining special flight permit:
A
- Submit written form (FAA form 8130-6) to FSDO (found in A/FD) indicating:
- purpose of flight
- crew required to operate aircraft
- ways in which the aircraft does not comply with the regs - The FAA will then respond with a letter of authorization for that specific reason and aircraft
- the LOA must be carried in aircraft during transport
- or verbal

Special flight permits
A special flight permit may be issued for an aircraft that may not currently meet applicable airworthiness requirements but is capable of safe flight for the following purposes:
A
- Flying the A/C to a place of repairs, alterations, maintenance, or storage
- Delivering or exporting the aircraft
- Production flight testing
- Evacuating aircraft from place of imminent danger
- Customers demonstration flights (if aircraft has completed production flight tests)
- To authorize flight in excess of max gross weight to carry extra fuel if refueling and landing facilities are not available along the route
