Spastic Dysarthria Intervention Flashcards

1
Q

Respiratory intervention

A

Relax neck, shoulders and upper chest.
Transfer respiratory effort to abdominal level during breathing.
Inspiratory checking- deep breath in and out slowly to regulate flow of air and volume of air.
breathy sighs- to establish easy airflow.
Adjust posture.
U tube manometer.
abdominal support by pushing on abdominal muscles during exhalation.
Girdling abs with elastic bandage- prosthetic.

Q

What is the aim for phonation intervention?

A

there’s laryngeal hyper-adduction, stained/hoarse voice.

Aim is to establish a more relaxed less strained voice.

Q

Name intervention techniques for phonation.

A

General body, head and neck relaxation exercises.
Vocal exercises to decrease laryngeal tension.
EMG biofeedback to reduce laryngeal tension
other biofeedback- Visipitch :) provides instant visual feedback on computer for pitch variation.

Q

Treatment of articulation- what is the aim?

A

work on speed, rate and force, isn’t appropriate.

Aim- gentle approximisation of consonants and emphasize clear vowel production with minimum tension.

Q

Prosody intervention

A

monotonous pitch - use visipitch or help increase self-montoring when reading passages etc.
Pacing board to regulate rhythm- help slow to reduce spasticity.
