The last skylab crew returned in 1974 however
The first manned mission was led by Apollo Commander Charles (Pete) Conrad
Salyut 1 (the first space station)
(1971 - 1971) 6 months (ran out of fuel before a redesigned Soyuz could be sent to refuel it)
The first crew failed to dock
The second crew [in Soyuz 11] were there for 23 days, but the crew were killed on re-entry
Mir (means peace or world)
1986-2001
first modular space station (7 modules in total)
A resident, Valeri Polyakov holds the record of 437 days and 18hrs in space
pressurised volume of 350m3
International Space Station (1998-2020)
11th space station launched
3rd generation modular space station
Russian modules were launched first (Zarya ‘dawn’ launched by a Proton rocket)
but most of the leg-work was by the Space Shuttle
