The KWV ( Ko-operative Wijnbouwers Vereniging van Zuid-Afrika) was former in 1918 as a cooperative of wine producers and growers. They fixed minimum prices, determined areas of production and established production limits.
When was the South African Wine Industry Trust (SAWIT) established and what were its main goals?
SAWIT was established in 1999, and focused on speeding transformation of South African wine and to empower black workers in an industry that had long relied on slave labor.
When was the Wine of Origin (WO) system introduced and what purpose did it serve?
The WO system was introduced in 1973, compelling producers seeking certification to submit sample wine for evaluation by a tasting panel, in order to determine if the wine shows the correct organoleptic qualities for its cultivar and age.
