Sources Of Water and Who Consumes it? Flashcards
Why is demand increasing: agriculture
Increasing global population and increased global prosperity will demand higher rates of food production and so more water is needed for irrigation and such.
Is there enough water for everyone?
There is enough water for everyone, in fact we only use about 50 per cent of available water.
Rapid population growth in areas where there are limited supplies and a deterioration in water quality means more people are facing water shortages.
There is a world water gap between the “haves” and “have nots” as wealthy nations consume more and more.
Why is demand increasing: domestic
Daily domestic use average 47 litres per person in Africa, 95 in Asia, 334 in the UK and 578 in the USA.
Why is demand increasing: industry
Increased during 20th century due to large scale industrialisation in Europe, Russia, Canada and the U.S.
It rises in the next decade due to the industrialisation of China and India.
