Sound Flashcards
What is a sound wave?
It is a longitudinal wave.
What do longitudinal waves have?
They have vibrations that are parallel to the direction of the wave and energy transfer.
What is sound caused by?
It is caused by vibrating objects.
What does sound need?
Needs a medium to travel because it need to transfer energy and vibrations to other particles.
Where can sound travel?
Sound cant travel in a vacuum because it needs particles.
What can happen to sound?
It can be absorbed or reflected. An echo is sound being reflected. Anything soft absorbs sound.
Where does sound travel fastest in?
It travels fastest in a solid because the particles are packed and so the energy can be past on from particle to particle faster because there are many particles. So the more dense something is the faster sound travels.
What does frequency mean?
It means the pitch of sound. It is also the number of complete waves.
What is a high frequency?
It means more vibrations per second.
What is a frequency?
It is how high or low pitched the sound is.
What is frequency measured in?
In hertz (Hz)
