what is Asynchronous sound and it’s purpose?

A

its where the sound is either out of sync with the visuals or unrelated to the visuals. Not in sync with visuals: make the viewer feel disorientated and make characters and scene seem strange. Unrelated: there for emphasising something.

What is Ambient sound and its purpose?

A

The sounds of the location. They tell us what kind of place we are in and if we see how characters react to these sounds it tells us alot.

A

sound / music that seems steange in comparison to the scenes we are seeing.

Dialogue and it’s purpose?

A

the words that charaxters say. Do they reveal their beliefs, or their attitudes? How do they say it?

Diegetic sound and its purpose?

A

sound that you could hear if you were one of the characters in the scene. This can set the mood if the piece, influence a character’s behavior/emotions, help the viewer see the scene as realistic etc.

What is non diegetic sound and its purpose?

A

Other sound that the characters in the scene won’t hear- voice over, soundtrack etc. It sets the scene, time period, atmosphere etc.

What is pitch and its purpose?

A

Low pich: describes a sound that is deep and low (thunder etc), high pitch describes a sound that is higher and lighter.

What is Rhythm and it’s purpose?

A

Describes the beat of the music: fast/slow? fast rhythm= urgency / threat. Slow rhythm= calm/piece.

What is voice over and its purpose?

A

The use of a voice over images. as an intro, linking narrative device / comment on actions etc. Allows the audience to see inside the character’s head.

what is Sound bridge and its purpose?

A

A proportion of sound that covers a cut, to link two scenes together. Used to mask cuts from the audience, making it seem more realistic.

A

Its a sound which normally represents a certain character. Eg: da DA from Jaws.

A

A sound accompanying an action. Sometimes used to make the action more dramatic.

A

Music from a soundtrack (all the sounds) or scote (just music) emphasises the themes and emotions of a scene or character.
