Sound Flashcards
What is the period of the wave?
Period of a wave is the time taken for one wave to be formed.
What is frequency?
The frequency of a wave is the number of waves produced by a source each second.
What is the unit of frequency?
Hertz (Hz).
Freqeuncy =
(𝑁𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑎𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑝𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑎 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡)/(𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑠𝑒𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑑𝑠)
What is Amplitude?
The amplitude of a wave is its maximum disturbance from its undisturbed position.
Longitudinal wave :
Particle vibration is parallel to the direction of the wave
Transverse wave :
Particle vibration is perpendicular to the direction of the wave.
Give a transverse wave example :
Ripples on the surface of water.
vibrations in a guitar string.
Give a longitudinal wave example :
Sound waves in air.
What are the 2 types of waves?
Transverse wave
Longitudinal wave
What is the Independent variable?
Distance
What is the dependent variable?
Time
What variables are controlled?
Temperature
Give an example on where you would see waves on a screen.
ECG machine
What is a signal generator?
A signal generator produces different types of electrical signals of different frequencies and amplitude.
