Leap of faith
Process beginning in despair(sickness unto death), doubt and denial
Leap of faith leads to temporary gain. Eternal happiness
We do not and cannot have knowledge. Faith is the only means to save our soul
Beliefs
He believed faith is over knowledge. Faith is uncertain, we don’t know if there is a god or not. One must be oriented to God for fulfillment
Knight of faith/ teleological suspension of the ethical
Cannot seek counsel Only place the soul is satisfied Would do anything God says Ex: kill son because God says so Would suspend ethical standards
Three stages in life’s way
Aesthetic life- pleasure based. Externally oriented. Souls in despair boredom.
Ethical life- duty to ethical standards irony because one cannot fulfill standards. Guilt. Soul in despair
Religious life- religious passion based on faith relationship to God. Absurdity
Knight of faith
Why Christianity
State of passionate faith where one cannot know. Spirit is inwardly felt.
