What does it mean to be “Operations Capable”

A

▶ In short, when in HQ, on shift, or representing SBVAC in any fashion
must be in a state of clear mind and able body
▶ 8 hour rule
▶ Physical injuries
▶What do you do if a physical injury happens on a call?
▶ Psychological/mental health

Who is allowed to be in SBVAC HQ and when?

A

▶ Only full members may be in SBVAC by themselves
▶ You are not a full member
▶ Only full members may bring a (1) guest to HQ, they cannot leave the
guest alone. No guests can stay in HQ overnight
▶ We have amenities like TV/video games/couches/beds/computers
▶ Duty crew has first priority over all of them
▶ Each crew is responsible for keeping HQ clean
▶ At a minimum, HQ must be as clean when you leave compared to when you
arrived
▶ This very much applies to sign offs
▶ Only officers have access to office, only with the permission of an officer
can any non-officer be in there

What is proper appearance for being on duty?

A

▶ All members when on shift must be in full uniform unless otherwise
directed by the Lieutenant
▶ Probies: probationary job shirt and responder pants
▶ Members: BDUs and Job shirt/Q-zip
▶ ALL: Closed toe shoes (preferably boots), Watch with second hand,
black pens
▶ Females (and some males): hair tied back
▶ Men: Beards/Facial hair cannot impede the fitting of an N95 mask

A

▶ All members must carry credentials to their highest level of
clearance on them when in SBVAC
▶ For you: CPR cards, (some of you also EMT cards)
▶ Crew Chiefs: EMT/AEMT cards
▶ Drivers: Drivers License
▶ ALL: SBVAC ID card

What is the general procedure of emergency calls?

A

▶ We are activated by Suffolk County FRES
▶ Fire Rescue Emergency Services
▶ “Medcom”
▶ We communicate with them about our status using pre determined radio signals
▶ Sometimes we get multiple alarms at the same time
▶ ATT and Probies may not respond to HQ for these alarms
▶If you are in HQ during such a time you may
▶ CCs and Evo
▶ We get dispatched on a graded scale from Alpha to Echo
▶ Go hot on Bravo+
▶ After each call we write a Prehospital Care Report (PCR)

Which vehicles are used and their purpose?

A

▶ Long story short, only people who are approved EVOs can drive
ambulances (Units 15-17)
▶ Exception: Driver training
▶ We also have a responder for ALS providers and CCs/EVOs (80)
▶ We have a company car (81)
▶ Useful for EMT class, company business, etc
