Oxygen Skill Flashcards
Week1
How do you identify an oxygen tank?
- Green tank - “Oxygen” written at the top in the metal - 3 Pin index safety system
What safety checks must you do before setting up oxygen tank?
Verify you have a functioning regulator, an Oxygen key, and the regulator has a black “O” ring present
What are the 3 types of oxygen delivery systems?
Non-rebreather Mask (NRB), Nasal Cannula, and Bag-Valve mask (BVM)
Which of the 3 masks is the “go-to” for most calls?
NRB
What is the flow rate range for an NRB?
12-15 LPM
In what situations would you not use an NRB?
If the patient is unconscious or feels uncomfortable/claustrophobic using the NRB, you could either use a Nasal Cannula or BVM depending on the siutation
In what situation would you use a BVM?
If the patient is unconscious or not capable of normal breathing on their own
What is the proper flow rate for a Nasal Cannula?
2-6 LPM
Do you need to use a BVM with the oxygen tank?
No not always, using without oxygen tank delivers 21% oxygen, using the oxygen tank administers 100% oxygen
Why do you want to not stand the tank upright or pointed towards someone?
Oxygen tanks hold high pressures and can be dangerous if malfunction
What is the proper range of pressure for an Oxygen tank?
>700 Psi
What should you do if the tank is <700 PSI?
Replace the tank
What is the flow rate range for using a BVM?
15-25 LPM
When would you use a Nebulizer?
When a patient in undergoing an asthma attack
What is the flow rate range for using a nebulizer?
4-6 LPM
