- physical conditions unexplained by an underlying disease or mental disorder
- unconscious production of symptoms
(i. e. not facticious/ malingering)

Define conversion disorder
-neurologic symptoms usually following some stressor (stressor not required for dx)

- seizure like activity

Treatment approach to conversion disorder
- present diagnosis
- **make it clear that patient is not manufacturing his or her symptoms
- CBT
- SSRI
Define pain disorder
-pain disproportionate to any underlying injury or illness
may be diffuse in nature, wont respond to typical treatments
MC complaint in pain disorder
-headache
Biologic cause of pain disorder
-emotional dysregulation via modulation of limbic-cortical networks involving the amygdala and anterior cingulate gyrus
Treatment of pain disorder
- TCAs/SSRIs
- psychotherapy
- massage may be helpful
