Solutbility Flashcards
Water’s physical properties
Colourless liquid
Melting point 0 degrees
Boiling point 100 degrees
Used as a solvent in drink and washing
List the factors affecting rate of dissolving
Temperature
Stirring
Volume of solvent
Mass of solute
Surface area of the solute
Solubility meaning
It is the mass of a solid that will saturate 100g of water (or solvent) at a particular temperature. Units = g/100g water
Saturated solution meaning
It is one in which no more solid will dissolve at a particular temperature.
How to find the solubility of a substance?
Mass of solute divided by mass of solvent X 100
Explain the effect of temperature on the solubility of solids and gases
As the temperature rises the solubility of solids goes up and the solubility of gases goes down
The liquid in which the solute dissolves
Solvent
A soluble substance which dissolves
Solute
A mixture of a solute dissolved in a solvent
Solution
A substance that will no dissolve in a particular solvent
Insoluble
