Quantitative Chemistry Flashcards
What is the concentration of a solution?
It is a measure of how much of a substance is dissolved in a known amount of water
Triangle of calculating concentration
Moles
Concentration Volume
How to change concentration from g/dm3 to mol/dm3
Concentration in mol/dm3 X RFM
How to record results when carrying out a titration?
Results from the titration should be recorded to one decimal place.
Titration should be repeated for reliability until two results between 0.2cm3 are obtained.
What is titration?
A method of reacting two solutions together to determine the number of moles of the solute is one of the solutions
Another way to calculate concentration in g/dm3
Mass of solute(g) divided by volume
What is molar gas volume?
Volume of one mole of gas under specified conditions of temp and pressure e.g. 24dm3 at 20 degrees and one atmosphere pressure
Equation for molar gas volume
Moles = gas volume divided by molar gas volume
What is avogadro’s law?
Equal volumes of gases under the same conditions of temp and pressure contain the same number of particles.
E.g. if 1 mole of a gas has a volume of 24dm3 at room temp and pressure then 2 moles will have a volume of 48dm3
What is atom economy?
Is a measure of how efficiently the atoms in the reactants are used and converted to the desired product in a chemical reaction
How to calculate percentage of atom economy?
Mass of desired product divided by sum of masses of all products X 100
