soluble and insoluble salts Flashcards
1
Q
all nitrates?
A
soluble
2
Q
how to make insoluble salts?
A
precipitation method
3
Q
how to make soluble salts?
A
titration or filtration
4
Q
when do you use a titration?
A
when both reactants are soluble
5
Q
when do you use filtration?
A
when one reactant is insoluble
6
Q
how to make soluble salts
A
neutralising acids and crystallising the remaining solution
7
Q
formula for making soluble salts
A
Acid (aq) + Base (s)/Alkali(aq) —–> Salt(aq) + Water (l)
8
Q
How to make insoluble salts
A
mix solutions to make a precipitate
9
Q
How to make soluble salts
A
insoluble base method
10
Q
What is insoluble base method
A
- heat acid
- add more base so we know all acid used up, and base in excess
- filter out excess base
11
Q
how to crystallise
A
- heat salt solution till crystals start forming
- allow to cool in evaporating basin for few days
- filter out crystals to remove excess salt
- dry crystals by dabbing
12
Q
group 1 or NH4+?
A
soluble
13
Q
most sulphates?
A
soluble
14
Q
insoluble sulphates?
A
lead, barium, calcium
15
Q
most chlorides?
A
soluble
