Solar System Flashcards
1
Q
General Description of Solar System
A
- The Sun is the dominant influence in the Solar System (gravitationally and causes weather)
- All major bodies orbit in roughly the same plane (planets within 7 degrees, except Pluto)
- All planets & most major bodies orbit counter-clockwise
- Most planets rotate WEST TO EAST
- All planets are either Terrestrial or Jovian Planets

Q
Terrestrial Planets
A
- “Earth-Like”
- Small, mostly solid
- High average densities (4 - 5.5 g/cm^3)
- Rocky Surfaces, Iron Nickel interiors
- The Four Inner planets

Q
Jovian Planets
A
- “Jupiter-Like”
- Large, gaseous worlds
- Low average densities (0.7 - 1.6 g/cm^3)
- No solid surface, metallic Hydrogen or liquid interiors
- The Four Outer planets
