Newton's Laws Flashcards
1
Q
Newton’s First Law of Motion
A
A body at rest, remains at rest. A body in motion remains in uniform motion; unless acted upon by a force.
2
Q
Newton’s Second Law of Motion
A
- States the acceleration of an object is dependent on the mass on an object and the force being acted upon the object.
- F = ma
3
Q
Newton’s Third Law of Motion
A
For every force, there is an equal, but opposite force
4
Q
The Universal Law of Gravitation (and its results)
A
- Describes an attractive force between any two bodies
- Fg = GMm / r^2
g = GM / r^2 - Showing that more mass = more gravitational force
5
Q
Newton’s Corollary to Kepler’s Third Law
A
- Provides astronomers with the only way to measure the masses of astronomical objects
- (M + m) = ( 4pie^2 / G ) x (a^3 / p^2)
