A firefighter will transmit a MAYDAY if any of the following conditions exist:
A
- Lost/trapped/serious life-threatening injury
- Serious or life threatening injury occur to another member
- Lost, trapped, seriously injured, or unconscious firefighter discovered
- Entangled, pinned, unable to free self after first attempt
- Low-air alarm activated, unable to find an exit
- Zero visibility, no contact with hoseline, search rope, and exit unknown
- Primary exit blocked by fire or collapse and you cannot locate an immediate secondary exit.
- Serious fall
- Rollover condition and cannot find exit
- Caught in a flashover

Radio Transmission Procedure
A
- Activate EIB (emergency identifier button) on portable radio.
- LUNAR report
- Pause after each message, repeat until IC acknowledges.
- If no contact can be made, go to another channel
- Activate PASS device in between each message and after it is acknowledged.
