Q

What is a strain?

A
  • A traumatic injury to the ligaments or muscles surrounding a joint
  • damage to the muscle or tendon caused by over stretching them beyond their functional capacity. Can be chronic as a result of overuse

Q

What’s are the 3 types of sprain injuries

A

Minimal injury-little sigh of injury

Q

severity of Sprain

A

Mild- no effect on movement of the limb

Q

What is a fracture and it’s two categories

A

A break in the continuity of bone
-may also involve blood vessel, nerves and other tissue surrounding the bone

  • closed fracture=does not break the skin so no associated open wound
  • open fracture= Broken bone has gone through skin, therefore increased risk of infection in wound

Q

What are the 7 types of fractures

A
  1. Green stick fracture
  2. Potts- fracture involving the lower extremity of the tibia and fibula usually involves ankle dislocation
  3. Comminuted- involves the bone shattering into multiple pieces of bone or several breaks
  4. Transverse-break to the bone across its long axis
  5. Spiral
  6. Colles
  7. Epiphyseal
