Soft Tissue Assessment Flashcards

1
Q

What’s overuse

A

Performing a task with a frequency that doesn’t allow tissue to recover and symptoms may be due to a lack of muscle strength or endurance

Q

Symptoms for tendon disorder

A

Onset gradual, aggravated on activity, depends where tendon is, rest makes it feel better

Q

What does mechanotherapy do

A

Loads tissue, stimulates cellular response, tissue is more robust and resilient, keep loading tissue at repeated time periods, switches on cells repeatedly becomes more able to cope with stresses upon it maintain homeostasis= less pain

Q

What’s the healing process of soft tissue

A

Remodelling phase- formation of intra and extra molecular cross linkages between collagen fibres, aim of treatment is to restore viscoelastic properties by promoting hysteresis, creep and plastic deformation

Q

How can you assess muscle and tendon tissue

A

AROM/ PROM, length, strength, isometric, palpate for tenderness, endurance, power, motor control

Q

How does AROM/ PROM assess muscle and tendon tissue

A

Differential diagnosis, AROM moves inert and contractile tissue, PROM only moves inert tissue, if PROM is painful and doesn’t go to full range could indicate inert problem if PROM pain free could indicate muscle or tendon issue

Q

How does isometric testing assess muscle and tendon tissue

A

Pain provocation, static test doesn’t allow muscle to work concentrically or eccentrically

Q

What’s a pain provocation test

A

Pain provocation is noted. Test results are considered positive if the test increases or reproduces the patient’s symptoms.
