Education passes on norms and values n order to inter great e individuals into society.
Education helps create social order based on value consensus and cohesion
What is Parson’s view on education?
Describes school as a bridge between the family and adult roles of society. He says education selects children into appropriate roles because it’s meritocratic

What is the Marxist view on education?
- education prepares children for the world of work by giving them skills and values employers need

Pupils are prepared for work by the school system:

- gender differences in subject choice in schools - gender stereotyping still exists
- Girls outperform boys at school - boys still demand more attention from he teacher
