Biology Flashcards
In what conditions do enzymes only work in?
They only work in their best specific conditions of temp and PH
Internal conditions that are controlled include:
body temperature
the water content of the body
blood glucose concentration
How does the body respond changes?
when you exercise, your muscles get hotter
when you have eaten, your blood sugar levels increase
when it is hot and you sweat, and you lose water and salt through sweat
What are receptors?
cells that detect change in the external or internal environment. The changes are known as stimuli.
What is the coordination centre?
areas that receive and process the information from the receptors. They send out signals and coordinate the response to the body.
What are the effectors ?
muscles or glands that bring about responses to the stimulus that have been recieved
How does the nervous system work?
Once a sensory receptor detects a stimulus and then an electrical impulse is sent down the neuron. The impulse travels along the neuron until it gets to the central nervous system. Made up of spinal cord and brain.
They then travel to the motor neuron. They then travel to the effectors and then you either contract your muscles or glands depending on if it was an internal or external factors.
