No, race refers to groups of people who have differences in traits but they do not scientifically exist

An institution such as family, school, friends etc that influence a child’s socialization

What is structural functionalism
- Societies depend on each other
- Humans are social creatures
- Explains how a society is organized to perform its required functions
What is the conflict theory
People in power exploit others to keep the power.
Conflict exists because of inequalities in power
-Society is divided into groups and encourages competition
Difference between achieved status and ascribed status?
Achieved - Position person holds based on their own efforts
Ascribed - Position person holds that is determined at birth, they have no control over it
Difference between functionalists and conflict theorists?
Functionalists avoid social change and believe people cooperate to effect social order
Conflict theorists encourage social change and believe rich and powerful people force social order on the poor and weak
Define symbolic interaactionism
Focuses on how individuals learn about their culture and how people define and shape reality and how it changes their behaviour
