Define socialisation
Process in which we learn acceptable beliefs and behaviour
When does socialisation begin
Moment of birth and extends to the point of death
Define agent of socialisation
Any person, social group or organisation that passes on cultural norms and values and essentially teaches us how to behave
Agents of socialisation are also agencies

Their are 3 stages - primary - Secondary - tertiary And claimed that there are 2 elements to socialisation and how we learn - formal socialisation - informal socialisation
Define primary socialisation
Occurs early in child’s life and is due to influence of family and close friends
Define secondary socialisation
Process of learning what is the appropriate behaviour as a member of a smaller group with the larger society
Define tertiary socialisation
Maturity with old age
Define formal socialisation
The organised learning of skills norms and information such as in a school environment
Define informal socialisation
The process of assimilation of attitudes, values behaviour patterns acquired in the personal life

What and how do we learn from the family
- basic behaviours such as manners
- social skills
- cultural and family traditions
We learn through: - formal socialisation=instructions
Parents teach children how to become functioning members of society - formal socialisation=sanctions
Pocket money can reinforce behaviour and being grounded can punish bad behaviour - informal socialisation=imitation of role models
Imitate parents and sibilant copying same sex parent thus learning gender roles

FS - sanctions: certificates or detention
IFS - imitation of role models: imiate same- sex teachers, prefects and copying their behaviour

FS - sanctions: social media through likes and comments
INF - imitation of role models: copying celeb fashion or copying acts of violence

What:
Job skills, teamwork and leadership

FS - instructions: formal training and deadlines
FS - sanctions: bonus or warnings
INF - imitation of role models: imitate bosses and colleges on how to deal with costumer’s or gain a promotion
