Socialisation and upbringing

Barked and ran on all fours like a dog, and had spent time with dogs and left the kennel since a young age.
What happened to KAMALA AND AMALA?
Wolf children walked on all fours, no evidence of human mannerism.
What is primary socialisation?
An intimate and prolonged contact with parents from the ages 0-9 where the family teaches the basic norms and values and we imitate parent behaviour.
What is secondary socialisation?
From stages 5-18+ we are taught further norms and values of society by our peers, the media, religion, education system and the workplace.
PARSONS “FAMILY ROLE IN PRIMARY SOCIALISATION”
Females have an expressive role that is neutral and based on child bearing but reinforced by socialisation, males have an instrumental role acting as bread-winners and protectors.

Manipulation- encouraged stereotypical accepted gender behaviour
Canalisation - channelling children’s interest into toys
Verbal appellation - pet names, nicknames to children
Different activities - encouraging participation in activities enforcing stereotypes
What is the Marxist perspective on socialisation?
Men traditionally have the breadwinner role to accommodate a growing capitalist society - females socialised into a lower place and took care of children.
