How is nationality linked with identity?
The identity of a whole country includes how individuals within that country have a national identity which affects how they see themselves.
Expressed through supporting national team, pride, national anthem, national flag, language.

A nation is an imagined community as members of the nation will never meet other members. A national identity is socially constructed through symbols (flag)
How is national identity changing?
“Englishness” based on historical traditions that are now meaningless to the vast majority.
SARDAR “CHANGING NATIONAL IDENTITIES”
The world is in the middle of a global identity crisis as many of the old divides (East v. West) in which we defined ourselves have broken down.
The Scottish referendum and national identity.
The Scottish questioned their identity, resulting in 25% saying they were more Scottish than British, 30% chose equally and 1/2 placed their Scottish identity first.

Cultural homogenisation is to accept a global culture and countries become more similar.
Cultural hybridity takes parts of a global culture alongside the traditional culture.
Cultural resistance resists the global culture to protect ones heritage.
HASLEY “DISAPPEARANCE OF BRITISHNESS”
Britishness is hard to find due to growing international homogeneity and the dominance of American culture.
