John Peter Zenger
German printer who published accusations about the governor of the NY colony. He was arrested for libel. He was found not guilty and his freedom helped guarantee the rights of freedom of speech and freedom of the press
Nat Turner
was an educated slave who led a rebellion against slave owners in 1831
Substance Farming
allows the farmer to produce enough crops for his family’s needs, but not enough to sell for profit
Plantations
large farms mainly used for growing cash crops
Indentured Servants
individuals who worked for about 7 years to pay off their voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. They willingly chose to make the journey and eventually would be free to have their own farm

Second law in the colonies that guaranteed religious freedom. Was put in place in Maryland Because a protestant majority began to restrict the rights for Catholics to worship freely
Salem Witch Trials
Panic that began in Massachusetts when some girls began acting strangely. The Puritans thought that they were witches. The girls were put on trial and found guilty of witchcraft. Others were sent to death after that.
Bacon’s Rebellion
Rebellion led By Nataniel Bacon against the government of Jamestown. He was upset about a rise in the taxes and Native American threats. Ultimately, he attacked peaceful Native Americans and burned parts of Jamestown
