What is Social Psychology?
The study of how the real or imagined influence of other people, or other presence, affects human behavior.
What is the fundamental attribution error?
The tendency to falsely assign reason to another’s action, usually in a negative way.
What are the four types of internal characterization?
Social, Psychological, Physical, Holistic
What is a disadvantage of correlational studies?
They do not imply causation.
What is prosociation?
The occurrence when people want to help others (usually by some circumstance)
How can you tell if a study is experimental?
There will be a variable that changes
How can you tell if a study is correlational?
There will usually be a survey of some kind
How can you tell if a study is archival?
Researchers will be looking at past events.
How are archival studies different than observational studies?
Archival studies look at things in the past, observational studies observe people in real time.
What is the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset?
Fixed mindsets think that performance will stay the same, growth mindsets think that there is room for improvement
What research method offers the best answers as far as linking a cause with an effect?
Experimental Studies
What does a correlational experiment mean if it’s positively correlated?
Both variables go up
What is the range of correlational coefficients?
-1 to 0 and 0 to 1, positive correlations are positive numbers and negative correlations are negative.
Why is common sense dangerous?
Our intuitions are sometimes incorrect, and we need to differentiate science from common sense
