SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY Flashcards
Key belief
All behaviour is a result of OBSERVATION and IMITATION
Assumptions
-Beh is based/ learned off experience
-Assumes all cog processes are important
- SLT proposed - learning through observation and imitation
- learn both directly and indirectly
- social learning through classical and operant conditioning
Albert Badura date and aim - SLT
1961
Aim: to test the idea that children can learn to become MORE AGRESSIVE THROUGH another person becoming AGRESSIVE
procedure bandura
Children (3-5yrs) saw adult behaving aggressive to BOBO DOLL
findings - Bandura
Boys performed more acts of aggression than girls, children shows significantly more imitation of SAME SEX MODEL
Highest levels of aggression produced in children who SAW MODEL PRAISED And put them into 3 groups because of this.
- Models (more likely when see model getting rewarded)
- Learn directly ( eg: maths lessons)
- Learn indirectly (eg: angry/sad)
Mediational processes
Bridge between TRADITIONAL BEHAVIOURISM and the COGNITIVE APPROACH. the mental processes help mediate learning processes - to determines if beh is worth acquiring
Vicarious reinforcement
Indirect learning - observes beh of others , only see when rewarded rather than punishment
OBSERVES BEH BUT ALSO IMPORTANTLY OBSERVES CONSEQUENCES
Identification
Imitate someone they identify w- called role models - process of modelling
How to become a role model
Possess similar characteristics to observer and / or is ATTRACTIVE
High status eg : why media has important implications
Mediate
Intervene
Processes identified by bandura
- Attention
2.retention
^^ LEARNING
- Motor reproduction
4.motivation
^^PEFORMANCE
Attention
Extent to which we notice certain beh
Retention
How well the beh is remebered
Motor reproduction
Ability of observer to peform beh
Motivation
The will to peform beh - often determined if rewarded/punished
