Social Learning Theory Flashcards
Who came up with the SLT and what is it?
Albert Bandura : There are mental processes that take occur between stimulus and response + learning takes place through imitation
What is identification?
When an observer associates themselves with a role model and wants to be like the role model
What is vicarious reinforcement?
Reinforcement which is not directly experienced but occurs through observing others being reinforced for a specific behaviour
What is modelling?
The precise demonstration of a specific behaviour by a role model that leads to the imitation of the behaviour
What is imitation?
Copying the behaviour of others.
What is required to execute imitation?
Mediational processes: Attention, Retention, Motor Reproduction, Motivation
What is attention?
The extent to which we notice certain behaviours
What is retention?
How well information is remembered
What is motor reproduction?
The ability of the observer to perform the behaviour
What is motivation?
The will to perform the behaviour, often determined by rewards and punishments.
