- average £800/year for care home, £1000/year for nursing home
- contribute to costs yourself unless reasons are health related
family carers
children and families act 2014 and the care act 2014 strengthened young carers rights
- 120,000 young carers in 2021
social care funding
2022 health and care act created 42 integrated care systems to tackle funding
- tories introduced a ‘social care precept’ in 2015 allowing councils to up council tax 2% to fund social care
- boris johnson introduced the health and social care levy which upped national insurance costs by 1.25%
- johnson also introduced a lifetime cap of £86,000 on social care costs
