Q

explain social loafing as a factor and give evidence and a weakness of it

A

this is when individuals put less effort when they are in a group compared to on their own

a study asked males to shout as loud as they could, on their own, with someone else and in a group of 6 they made the least noise in the group

does not apply to all tasks, some creative tasks benefit from group effort

Q

explain culture as a factor and give a weakness of it

A

these are the beliefs and expectations that surround us, if you’re from an individualistic culture you are more likely to make decisions off your personal needs but if you’re from a collectivist culture you are more likely to make these decisions off the groups needs

we can’t make a generalisation off a whole culture as people vary

Q

explain personality as a factor and give a weakness of it

A

having an internal locus of control means you are less likely to be affected by others so in a group you are more likely to follow personal norms

not all research shows that personality matters, a study showed participants an unethical study to see if they would report, the people who reported had the same personality scores as people who didn’t

Q

explain morality as a factor and give a strength of it

A

morals are our sense of right and wrong, someone with a stronger moral compass is more likely to be guided by them and are less affected by the crowd

milgram’s study supports this, a professor stopped at 150V and said he didn’t understand why this experiment had to be placed over someone’s life
