Social influence
The effects of the presence or actions of others, either real or imagined, on the way people think, feel and behave.
Group
Any collection of two or more people who interact with and influence one another who share a common purpose
Characteristics of a group
Number of individuals
The individual’s must interact for longer than a moment
The individual’s must influence one another
The individual’s must share a common goal
Status
The importance of an individuals ‘ position in a group, as perceived by members of the group.
Power
An individual’s ability to control or influence the thoughts, feelings or behaviour of another person.
Role expectations
There are expectations to how you behave once you take on a role which influences how a person will behave within a group, particularly if they have status or power.
Obedience
Following the commands of someone with authority, or the laws of society
Conformity
Tendency to adjust ones thoughts, feelings or behaviour in ways that are in agreement with an individual or group, or with accepted standards about how a person should behave.
