Soc17: The Structure Of The Respiratory System Flashcards

1
Q

How does the respiratory system work

A
  1. You breath in and the intercostal muscles contracts and lifts up while the diaphragm tightens and lowers
  2. The diaphragm changes from dome shape to flat
  3. Diaphragm relaxes when we breathe
  4. These actions opens the lungs
  5. The air passes through the trachea, into bronchi through which air passes into either lung
  6. Small branches from bronchi have small sacs (alveoli)
  7. In the alveoli, oxygen passes into the blood so it can be transported around the body
