Soc17: The Structure Of The Respiratory System Flashcards
1
Q
How does the respiratory system work
A
- You breath in and the intercostal muscles contracts and lifts up while the diaphragm tightens and lowers
- The diaphragm changes from dome shape to flat
- Diaphragm relaxes when we breathe
- These actions opens the lungs
- The air passes through the trachea, into bronchi through which air passes into either lung
- Small branches from bronchi have small sacs (alveoli)
- In the alveoli, oxygen passes into the blood so it can be transported around the body
