What affects who plays sport?
The number of people taking part in sport in the UK once a week is rising, but still over half the population - 58 per cent - play no sport. There are many reasons why some people take up sport and continue to be physically active, amd why some people don’t.
Does gender affect who and what sport you participate in?
The idea that some physical activities are more ‘male’ and others more ‘female’ has mostly disappeared, but some activities still offer one sex more opportunities than the other. However a boy might struggle to find a netball team due to the large amount of gender who play the sport are females.
How does age affect someone participating in sports?
Age can have a couple of restrictions when playing sports. For example football for boys only really starts age 7 competitive. Some sports lend themselves to being more suitable for younger people such as gymnastics etc. Whereas older people are more likely to play sports such as golf because the older your getting because it doesn’t impact your joints and mucles as much as other sports.
What is a socio-economic group?
Countries such as the UK has two classes in society. The rich and the poor. The rich are more likely to be coached with more quality who were maybe ex-footballers. These schools can also afford more opportunities than others with future technologies etc.
How does ethnicity affect someone play in a certain sport?
Ethnicity refers to a population whose members identify with each other and are united by common cultural, linguistic or religious traits. It can influence whether we play sport, what we choose to play and what sports we succeed in. In 2008, Paul Ince became the first black English manager in the Premiership.
How does someone with disabilities affect them participating in a specific sport?
People with disabilities take part in many sporting activities. Resources and opportunities for disabled people to take part in sport are increasing. However, more availability is still needed in schools, and at a local level, for people with disabilities who are not professional athletes or sportspeople.
How are people influenced into playing a certain sport?
Most people’s choice of activity is influenced by others. People tend to choose the same activities as their friends, or members of their family, and are also influenced by sporting figures they admire. Chidren are the people who are in the primary phase meaning their role models would be their parents whereas as you get into secondary school your in your secondary phase where your role models are most likely going to change to someone who they look up to who they want to be like in the future.
What is the definition of commercialisation?
Making something available on the market; using something to make a profit.
What is the definition of media?
The main means of mass communication (television, radio, newspaper and internet).
What is the golden triangle?
The golden triangle is the link between sport, media and buisness.
What has sports got to do with commercialisation, media and sport?
Increased media coverage has meant that sport has become more and more commercialised. All major sports associations now see the media as a great shop window to publicise their sport, gain sponsorship, sell products and encourage more people to take up their sport.
How does fashion link with sport?
Many activities require the ‘right’ equipment - for example, you need boots to play football. Some brands of sports equipment can be fashionable - and expensive - partly as a result of media coverage of famous sportspeople.
What is the definition of deviance in sport?
Behaviour that falls outside the norms or what is thought to be acceptable; goes against the moral values or laws of the sport.
What is the definition of negative deviance?
Deviance that has a detrimental effect.
What is the definition of positive deviance?
Deviance where there is no intention to cause harm or break the rules.
