Feedback
Information received before, during or after a performance about the performance
Qualitative
Information about qualities, which is difficult to measure
Quantitative
Information about quantities, which can be measured
Guidance
Information to aid the learning of a skill; can be given visually, verbally, manually or mechanically
Open skill
Situation always changing. Player needs to continually adapt to situation. Practice needs to match competitive situation (sparring in boxing)
Closed skill
Takes place in stable, predictable environment. Not affected by environment. Movements follow set patterns and have a clear beginning and end (penalty in football)
Low organisational skill
Has clear, simple phases or parts; for example set shot in basketball (easy to teach)
High organisational skill
Has lots of complicated parts such as a somersault in trampoling. Requires high amount of skill, good co-ordination and timing (require more time and skill to teach)
Massed practice
Skill is practiced until learned, without taking break
Distributed practice
Where the skill is practiced over several sessions, or with rest breaks - this type of practice is normally for players of lower ability, experience or fitness levels
Fixed practice
Same skill practiced over and over again
Variable practice
Involves practicing the skill in a variety of different situations so that it can be adapted to suit different competitive situations. Essential for open skills.
Basic skill
Skill player finds easy and needs little concentration to do
Complex skill
Needs concentration and attention to execute. Need to be practiced a lot to master such as (free kick in football)
SMART goal
Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound
