what is it?
A
when data are collected at one point in time using a group of participants performing a task

advantages
A
- It is a time efficient way of collecting a lot of data, study might only take a few weeks to complete and for results to be analysed therefore reduces chances of extraneous variables interfering.
- Similar cultural influences as all done in nome moment in time
- useful for conducting pilot study to see whether a study is feasible. hence before running a large scale study.

disadvantages

- do not follow people for a long period of time so not useful in tracking how behaviour develops or long term effects
- only represents participants showing an opinion or behaviour at one point in time hence reductionist
