What is the individual Vs situational debate?

Individual because the focuses on how behavior is caused by the people themselves, hence their characteristics and personality influence how they behave.

Situational focuses on how behavior is caused by the environment we are in hence the situation we have been placed.

Advantages of this?

Answer 2

1. Useful to society as we now know there are two types hence can investigate in a social situations what could have lead to a certain behavior
2. Prevents the blaming on others as sometimes caused by the situation they are in not themselves.

Disadvantages?

1. Has to be high in ecological validity
2. Ethics- investigating the difference between both can lead to participants being placed in distressing situations
