What is a Leukoplakia? (potentially malignant lesions)
What can result in disappearance?
Defined as a white patch that cannot be rubbed off
Can occur 6x more likely in smokers
Stopping smoking may result in disappearance
What is Erythroplakia?
Patient has a long history of chronic white and red lesions of soft palate
More likely for malignant transformation than white patches

What products are available for someone stopping smoking? (pharmacotherapy)
Nicotine replacement therapy
– Patches, gum, inhalers, nasal spray, lozenges
Varenicline (Champix)
–increase chances of quitting compared to willpower alone

–same thing as in cough medicine
