What are Non-Technical Skills?
Non-technical skills refer to general cognitive and social skills that allow a healthcare professional to monitor situations and make decisions
Also to take a leadership role and communicate and co-ordinate their actions within a team, in order to achieve high levels of safety and efficiency
What must consent be?
Legal and valid
What are the 3 principles of legal consent?
Ability- patient has the ability to make an informed decision
Informed- patient has enough info to make a decision
Voluntary- patient has made the decision uninfluenced
What must consent be to be valid?
Specific to the proposed dental treatment only
remains current (continuing consent)

What does non-maleficence mean in terms of medical care?
Risk vs benefit, benefit must outweigh the risk for it to be worth doing

What is substance dependence?
Substance dependence is the medical term used to describe the use of drugs or alcohol that continues even when significant problems related to their use have developed
What are some types of primary studies?
Cross-Sectional
Cohort
case-control
What is a cross-sectional study?
Documents the prevalence in a community of health behaviours
What is a cohort study?
Type of epidemiological study in which a group of people with a common characteristic is followed over time to find how many reach a certain health outcome of interest
What is a Case-Control study?
Observational study in which two groups of people, those with the disease or condition under study (cases) and a very similar group of people who do not have the disease or condition (controls)
