What are some oral side effects of smoking?
Oral cancer
Perio risk factor
Increases complications with implants and extractions
Staining of teeth
Halitosis
Black hairy tongue
Overall greater medical risk
What is leukoplakia?
White patch that cannot be rubbed off
Common in smokers
Possibly pre malignant
What is erythroplakia?
Chronic white and red lesions on soft palate
More likely for malignancy than white patches
What advise would you provide on e cigarettes?
They can be an aid to quitting
Contain nicotine but not tobacco - safer than cigarettes
Safety in long term is not yet known
