Why is smoking dangerous?
Smoking increases your chances developing conditions such as breathing problems, cancer, heart attacks and strokes. Smokers are much more likely to die prematurely than non-smokers.
What’s in tobacco smoke?
It contains over 4000 chemicals, many of which are harmful. These includes: tar= a sticky black material that collects in the lungs. It irritates and narrows the airways. Some of the chemicals contain cause cancer. Nicotine= an addictive drug that speeds up nervous system like when you get stimulated. Carbon monoxide= a poisonous gas that stops the blood from carrying the required amount of oxygen.
How does smoking cause disease?
Heart diseases: smoking causes a person’s arteries to become blocked. This prevents blood flowing properly and can cause heart attack or stroke. Emphysema: chemicals in alveoli in your lungs. Their walls become weakness so they do not inflate properly.
